As we enter 2025, we have some big decisions to make in a period of uncertainty. Both the County and City have large budget deficits, so prioritizing spending is critical. We have seen what a lack of clear focus on getting the unsheltered homeless off the street and not having adequate police and prosecutorial services looks like: increased camps, drug dealing and use, garbage and sanitation issues, vandalism and crime, and the feeling of a lack of community security, livability, and business success.

This young couple, Heidi and Korey, were living in a tent on 16th and Lovejoy.  NWCC humanitarian team member Terrance spoke with them and learned that Heidi is in a drug treatment program in the Seattle area but came down to Portland to help Korey.  They ended up getting stuck in Portland and were unable to get help.
