Senator Reynolds to Meet with NW Community Regarding Harm Reduction and Syringe Services
State Senator Reynolds, your district representative, is hosting a Virtual Town Hall on Harm Reduction and Syringe Services. The Pearl District has recently seen an uptick in the pop-up model of syringe distribution. Our neighbors throughout our communities have experienced firsthand some of the challenges associated with this approach.
After months of community frustration over the fate of SB 1573, a bill that would have kept needle and drug paraphernalia distribution away from school zones, Senator Reynolds is convening a virtual town hall with Stadiumhood and Friends of Couch Park neighbors on Thursday, April 23rd from 6 to 7 PM.
The bill, which neighbors described as straightforward and common-sense, was blocked from advancing — a move that drew sharp criticism from Northwest District Association President Todd Zarnitz, who noted that Senator Reynolds "unilaterally blocked the bill from advancing." — NW Examiner
This virtual town hall is an opportunity for community members to hear directly from Senator Reynolds, ask questions about where things stand, and weigh in on where we go from here. Registration is free and open to all. Please share with neighbors and anyone with a stake in how Portland addresses this issue.
