Stories from the Streets: Helping Lucas Find His Way Home
A Simple Connection That Changed Everything
NWCC Humanitarian team member Terrance met Lucas, 33, from Marion, North Carolina, during his outreach in downtown Portland. Lucas shared that he’d been stuck in Portland for the past four months, unsure how to find his way home.
Recognizing an opportunity to help, Terrance reached out to the Portland Solutions Outreach Team, who quickly stepped in. Together, they began the process of arranging a plane ticket so Lucas could return home to North Carolina.
This small moment of connection—one short conversation—set in motion a chain of support that’s now helping Lucas find stability and reunite with his community.
Thank you, Terrance, for being present, compassionate, and intentional with everyone you meet. Your dedication reminds us how meaningful outreach can be when it starts with a simple, human connection.
