We’ve Been Flocked! Help Us Mitigate the Crows!
A Collaborative Community Plan to Solve the “Crow Issue”
While we love our crows, we don’t love the mess they leave behind. From droppings on streets, sidewalks, and cars to damage caused by pecking at insulation and electrical wiring, it’s clear that a humane approach is needed to reduce their numbers in our community.
Good news: we found one!
NWCC is partnering with Integrated Avian Solutions, a team that uses trained Harris Hawks, noise makers, laser pointers, and other safe, humane techniques to encourage crows to relocate to areas where they’re less likely to cause problems.
We’ll still have plenty of crows to admire and enjoy, but with their numbers kept in check, our streets, buildings, and cars can stay a little cleaner (and quieter).
How You Can Help
We’re asking buildings, businesses, and community members to pledge toward the $48,000 seasonal cost. If we have a substantial community commitment, the cost per property could be as low as $2,000–$3,000, or even lower with broader participation. We’d also appreciate any individual contributions—we know many of you have a special relationship with the crows. Every bit of support makes a difference!
To make a pledge or if you have any questions, contact me at chase@nwccpdx.org.
Donations are Tax-Deductible
NWCC is a nonprofit organization, and we can accept donations specifically designated for this project. My time and effort are not being added to the cost. The request is $48,000, which covers the actual costs of the crow abatement program. That is all we are asking for to make this season happen. Learn more about the program and how it works on our previous blog: Crow Control in the Pearl District – Falconry Abatement Program.
Next season, we’ll be able to work more effectively with budget processes and, having a year of experience, can better assess the difference Integrated Aviation Solutions can make.
Thanks,
Chase
