Cold Weather Outreach in Portland: How You Can Help People Stay Warm This Week
Cold Weather Outreach and Immediate Needs During Freezing Temperatures
The NWCC Humanitarian team is actively conducting cold weather outreach, distributing coats, hand warmers, and shoes during freezing temperatures. Learn how to donate and support cold weather outreach.
Most-Needed Donations This Week
If you’re planning a Costco run or have large sized coats and footwear to donate, and would like to support our Pearl District cold weather response, the highest-need items are:
Large warm coats
Hand warmer bulk packs
New socks
New underwear
Footwear (larger sizes)
These items are distributed directly to individuals facing freezing outdoor conditions. These basic supplies help prevent frostbite, hypothermia, and other cold-related emergencies.
Stories from the Streets: Why Warm Clothing and Shoes Matter
Recently, while on patrol at a Hoyt Street Trac property, our security team encountered an individual without shoes. In freezing weather, lacking footwear makes it nearly impossible to travel safely to warming shelters or day centers.
NWCC Humanitarian Lead Terrance responded immediately and secured size 13 shoes so the individual could safely reach a day center.
Access to warm clothing and footwear isn’t just about comfort, it’s about survival when someone is on the streets in these conditions.
How You Can Support Cold Weather Relief in Portland
Community donations make this work possible. Adding one extra item to your cart can help someone stay warm, move safely, and reach a warming center.
If you’d like to coordinate a donation drop-off or support our cold weather outreach efforts, please contact me at chase@nwccpdx.org.
Together, we can help keep Portland’s most vulnerable neighbors safe during extreme winter weather.
Thank you,
