Discussing Infrastructure Improvements
Working Together to Brighten and Improve Our Neighborhood Streets
NWCC walked with PEMO (Portland Environment Management Office), ODOT, PBOT, and PGE on July 22nd. Together, we walked under the 405 from Raleigh Street down to Johnson Street. The goal: to identify opportunities to enhance lighting and improve safety for people walking, biking, and driving in the area. City agencies and PGE are exploring where new light poles can be added or existing ones upgraded to better illuminate streets and sidewalks beneath the highway.
In addition to lighting improvements, the group discussed broader environmental and infrastructure upgrades to enhance livability in the corridor. This includes potential changes to Johnson Street between 15th and 16th Avenues, aimed at improving both bicycle and automobile traffic flow.
It’s incredibly encouraging to see so many city agencies and utility partners actively engaged in making Portland’s streets safer and more welcoming for everyone.
Together, we can shape a stronger, more vibrant Pearl District.
